The mysterious story of a woodland All-Star
The Zanesville Greys were the first team to come to mind when storyboarding the life of my woodland All-Star. My grandparents lived in Zanesville, at the end of Grandview Ave in a lovely house that in time fell to disrepair, was abandoned, and — says Goggle Maps — leveled. The house overlooked the Muskingum River and the famous Y Bridge. The yard was steep enough for sledding, and the first time I successfully dribbled a basketball between my legs was on the court across the street. Not far away was Gant Park Municipal Stadium, where the Greys played. I remember a time when the 2,000-seat stadium was open, but nothing was happening. My dad and I sat in the stands and looked out at an empty field. A fine place to daydream. Tagging some local accounts because I’m feeling a little Zanesville today.
